Surviving the Winter

I don't know about my readers, but I live in Australia. And it currently is Autumn. That means that Winter is coming soon! I personally love winter. Snuggling up in bend with a good book and a hot chocolate. But I know lots of people who would much rather choose hot summer beaches than wet cold nights. So here's some quick tips to successfully survive and enjoy the upcoming winter...

1. Movies to get you in the mood:

The right DVD has the ability to completely change your mind about something. Who didn't want to become a cheerleader after watching Bring It On? or tap dance all around the house after Happy Feet ?
What I mean to say is, if you're not keen on the winter just yet, get a hold of these movies.

'The Holiday'; One woman goes to sunny LA, the other to England. You'll either end up hoping for a snow storm or just get your dose of (on-screen) sun.

'Frozen'; If you haven't seen Frozen yet... Have you been living under a giant boulder? This movie is now the highest-grossing animated movie ever! Cute couples (romantic and sisterly), songs and silly snowmen. This movie is probably the most realistic Disney movie I have ever seen. By the end of this, there's no doubt you'll have the warm fuzzies.

2. Your perfect Hang Spot:

Being out in the elements isn't exactly fun at the moment (brrr), so stake out a cosy spot indoors! You can't go wrong with these cold-weather venues.

The Movies: Grab your gang and go catch a flick - all without having to hear that nagging, "But you're wasting such a beautiful day inside..."

The Couch: Call your favourites and host a DVD marathon. It's time to catch up on that TV series everyone's always talking about so you can finally get all those quotes people won't stop reciting (how about 'How I Met Your Mother'. There's 9 seasons).

The Ice-Skating Rink: It may not get that icy outside (in Australia), but that's no reason to avoid going into serious winter-mode. Skating is also a great way to get your dose of exercise without being blown away in the frosty outdoors.

3. If 'It's Your Birthday':

Happy Birthday in advance! But whoever said summer birthdays were more fun than winter ones, huh? If your big day falls in the cold season, try these party themes on for a size before complaining about never being able to host a birthday pool party...

The Pyjama Party: Everyone knows PJ parties are the best kind of parties. Remember how hard it is to sumbler in summer? No need to worry now, it's way cooler when the sun sets. Get the girls over for a night of serious comfort.

Get Daggy: Need a party theme that's a little different? But still need extra layers of clothing to keep warm? Set "daggy" as your theme and get giggling to see who's most creative of your friends. I'm talking socks and sandals, your mum's old denim jacket and the funkiest beanie you can get your hands on.

Winter Wonderland: Paper snowflakes, cute earmuffs, knit sweaters and snow cones for an extra icy touch - turn your party room into a regular Narnia and get everyone to rug up. Hello boys in scarves - Yes to the please.

(Here's a nice model wearing a scarf)

So, are you keen for the winter holidays yet? Or are you jealous of your buddies who have winter birthdays? Hopefully with these 3 tips, you'll be greeting winter with open gloves and fluffy slippers.
